 2012 Juneteenth Celebration Scheduled for June 15-16

Event Highlights

Juneteenth Auditions:

Friday night “Gospel Under the Stars” Concert

  • Performances by Sacramento’s best Gospel artists

  • 7:pm till 9:30pm at the William Land Park Amphitheater


Juneteenth Parade


Saturday’s Festival in the Park

  • CA. Black Infant Health Program’s “Power Soul Stroll” – walk for infant health

  • Juneteenth Parade – marching bands, car/motorcycle clubs, steppers, fraternities/sororities  and more 

  • Main Stage Entertainment – featuring local bands and solo artist performing Blues, Gospel, Jazz, Reggae and R&B.

  • The Juneteenth Talent Show hosted by Lee Perkins. The talent show will feature auditions best talent. Winners will receive trophies and this year’s bragging rights – will be featured On next year’s promotional

  • Juneteenth Community Soldier Awards – Presented to unheralded members of the community who are making a difference  

  • Fishing Derby - Sponsored by the City of Sacramento’s “Fishing in the City” Program. The Parks & Recreation department will stock the pond at WLP with live catfish and teach youth how to fish.- poles and the bait will be provided

Juneteenth Health/Wellness Pavilion - in partnership with the American Heart Association & Healthy California Network’s – African American Campaign 

  • On- site health screenings

  • Physical activities – line dancing, zumba  

  • Distribution of health related resources


Juneteenth Educational Theater - A historical time-line representing the African slave trade and other historical information will be on display. Other theater components include:

  • Genealogy Seminars on the hour – Presented by African American Genealogy Society  

  • Presentations acknowledging the accomplishments of African Americans pre and post Emancipation


Vendors

  • Art, crafts and wares by local and regional artisans

  • Social services organizations 

  • Food – An array of good eats prepared by local restaurants and independent proprietors

Golf Tournament - A nine-hole affair at the Land Park Golf Course -both team and individual trophies.
